Position: Full Time Physical Therapy Assistant

Department: Physical Therapy

Shift: Days, Some Weekends

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of your job position as a Physical Therapy Assistant is to perform assigned duties in an efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by your supervisor to assure that a successful, viable department is maintained at all times along with the delivery of excellent patient care.  The function of the Physical Therapy Assistant is to assist the Physical Therapist in patient care activities; to perform such procedures delegated to him/her that are commensurate with his/her education and training.  The extent of which the Physical Therapy Assistant will participate in the following activities will be dependent upon the organization structure and size of the physical therapy service, and upon the health needs of the individual patient.  He/she carries out designated tasks which are required for the operation of the service.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum educational requirements - successful completion of a two year college program for Physical Therapy Assistant that leads to an Associate Degree and that has been approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.  Licensure or registration requirements - eligibility for state licensure or registration in the state where employed.
  • Experienced is preferred but new grads are acceptable.
  • Physical requirements - health status appropriate to the physical and emotional demands of the job. 
  • Basic knowledge in anatomy, physiology, neurology, pathology, psychology, therapeutic exercises, muscle testing, therapy modalities, manual therapy, and goniometric measurements.
  • Ability to work with patients of various ages, both medical and surgical. 
  • Be able to meet emergencies when they occur.  Be certified to administer CPR as needed.
