PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of the Patient Access Supervisor position is to oversee the Scheduling, Verification, Authorization, and Financial Counseling functions of the hospital revenue cycle to assure that a successful, viable department is always maintained. The Patient Access Supervisor is to maintain the patient access areas in a manner that patients are taken care of in a timely and courteous manner, private matters are kept confidential and professional standards are maintained while gathering the required information that will allow for clean claim processing and reduce controllable denials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school graduate with progressive experience in patient access areas that include scheduling, verification, authorization, and financial counseling.
- Ability to work well with all levels of hospital personnel.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the health care environment and how the department is to function. Must demonstrate fairness, diplomacy, good judgment, and professionalism with hospital staff, physicians, patients, and outside agencies.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of computer skills with all hospital systems (EMR) along with excel and word.
- Required to understand and apply knowledge of medical terminology.
- Must have the ability to communicate, direct and lead staff as part of supervisory functions.
- Preferred minimum five (5) years’ experience in a variety of settings including scheduling of patients, verification, authorization, financial counseling, and clinical and diagnostic knowledge.
- Preferred minimum of three (3) years of healthcare supervisory experience.
